A medicine professor loses his wife; she leaves with their daughter into arms of another man. The doctor is dying of sorrow; eventually he gets brutally robbed while drunk. Kaziuk, a stubborn peasant and his pregnant wife live in a backwoods village. The village is once visited by a couple of wanderers, and strange things start to happen afterwards.
