Biography: Co-founder of Studio Ghibli, Takahata earned critical international acclaim for his work as a director of anime films, among them Grave of the Fireflies (1988), Only Yesterday (1991), Pom Poko (1994), and My Neighbors the Yamadas (1999). His last film as director was The Tale of the Princess Kaguya (2013), which was nominated for an Oscar in the category of Best Animated Feature Film. (Wikipedia)

    The Story of Yanagawa\
    An (almost) live action documentary movie, produced by Nibariki, with the royalty revenue from Nausicaä. Miyazaki visited Yanagawa, and was impressed by the beautiful town with its canals, and came up with an idea for a film about high school boys and girls in Yanagawa with Takahata as director. Takahata was more interested in the history of the town, and as a result, it became a live action documentary, and Miyazaki decided to spend his own money on it. (imdb)
