In a boarding house lives the young Miss Flora Sorensen, a fresh and cheerful small Copenhagen-law. On the great beautiful estate Næsbygård resides the widower and landlord Martin Kaas. His only grandson 17-year-old Martin has returned from Italy, where his parents were killed in a plane crash. The boy is sent to the landlord's cousin in Texas to learn about cattle breeding on his large cattle farm. The landlord's good friend Pastor Pripp comforts him in his loneliness.

One night there is a terrible accident in the little station town of Bredsted. The young son of the rich Mogens Kragfelt is struck by the Natekspressen (P. 903) near the station. Police chief Aagesen sends the young detective officer Lund (Jørn Jeppesen) to investigate the case, where there are various mysterious circumstances, among other things there are traces of fights at the rails just where Kragfelt was crossed.

Eight old school friends meet at Tove's to discuss what has happened in the last 10 years. Some have made careers, others have become homemakers, some are married and others alone. The community is intact, but what no one knows is that Tove is hiding a big, unhappy secret.
