Biography: Born In Glasgow, Scotland. British comedy character actor, the son of a tailor. Educated in Leeds, Harrogate and Brussels. Followed in his father's footsteps (prior to taking up acting) as "shirtmaker to the stars", setting up his establishment in London's fashionable Regent Street. He made his breakthrough on radio during the 1940's (tallying up 2000 broadcasts in 1947 alone), later also appearing in films and on television. Had a reputation as a 'snappy dresser'. Acted in as many as 200 film

Shy Brenda Thompson writes naive children's stories to amuse herself. Stifled and desperate for a man of her own, she leaves Liverpool, telling her mom she's pregnant, and gets a job in a boutique in London. She moves in with the promiscuous but good-hearted Caroline but the mod set shuns her for her plain looks. She kidnaps a strange young man's dog to perhaps get to know him while returning it. The young man turns out to be Peter, a psychopath with a predilection for killing beautiful things. (imdb)
