Elsa Chauvel

Jedda is an Aboriginal girl born on a cattle station and whose mother dies giving birth to her. She is brought to Sarah McMann, who has just lost her own baby and she raises Jedda as her own. Stockman Joe is in love with Jedda and wants to marry her. Jedda is forbidden to learn about her own culture, but becomes curious and is lured into the bush by a man named Marbuck who takes her to his tribe, whilst Joe searches for her.

The film tells the story of the Australian Light Horse cavalry which operated in the desert at the Sinai and Palestine Campaign during World War I. It follows the adventures of three rowdy heroes in fighting and romance. The film culminates at the Battle of Beersheba which is reputedly "the last successful cavalry charge in history".
