"Tukkijoella" (Log River - 1928). Films of this genre gave the Finnish cinema and the viewing public one of its most popular characters - the lumberjack who at his most heroic hour becomes the log-roller or the shooter of rapids. The significance of this character in Finnish film is comparable to that of the Cowboy on American cinema. He is the pioneer, the wanderer, the adventurer. He negotiates the frontier, he is an embodiment of the conflict between wilderness and civilization.

The Baron Henrik von Hagen is an idle Finn bourgeois, after eleven years, he meets again an old acquaintance, Madame Vasilyevna, a foreigner who during her youthful days was a ballet dancer while Herr Baron was her faithful cavalier. Once they are reunited again in Helsinki, Herr Baron discovers that Madame Vasilyevna earns her living with a new hobby: she likes very much painting frozen Finn landscapes but especially the ones around military bases.

Majakkasaari's young captain Eero Luotola (Joel Rinne) and his bride Annikki (Lillan Järnefelt) have been inseparable since childhood. The lovers' idyll is broken when the artist Viklund (Sven Hildén) arrives on the island from the city as a summer guest and sets his sights on Annikki in Korea.

While on holiday, Himanen and Kehkonen offer to take the stationmaster across the lake in their boat. Through various mishaps Himanen, posing as a woman falls in love with the lensman's daughter.
