The Civil War is over but a maniac Major, played by Fajardo, intends to keep his troops and townsfolk in the dark to maintain his power over the area. Ranger Shango (Anthony Steffen) is captured by the Major and framed for the murder of the local telegraph operator, the only person capable of receiving the news that the war has ended. The "Criss" kill Gringo's brother causing the blame for the death of the Perkins to fall on him. He is taken to prison, but with his friends Mexico and four other bandits he escapes. As they flee they reach a village in which a fair is held but someone recognizes them and they must leave taking a dancer, Carmen, as a hostage. Gringo tries to protect her and is left in the desert all alone. The bandits then rob a mail-coach and kill the escorts.
The setting is only nominally the ancient world; we're really in a complete fantasy land where a hidden world lurks behind a giant waterfall, ruled by a depraved queen who practices mind-control and must force her slave population to continually turn a waterwheel lest their world come to an end.
