Black Midnight was the fourth of six Monogram films co-produced by actor Roddy McDowall. The film stars McDowall as Scott Jordan, whose mission in life is to train a wild stallion named Black Midnight. An absent minded research scientist takes a job at a munitions factory.

Working stiff Tom Tupper is stopped by a 'man on the spot' reporter during his daily commute. Asked for his opinion on male/female relations, Tom tells the radio audience that he thinks men could do a better job running the household than women. When he arrives home, his infuriated wife Margaret proposes that her husband put his money where his mouth is. The couple switch roles, with Margaret going to the office and Tom cooking and cleaning.

A crusading D.A. orders the police to shut down a South Seas themed girly show and arrest its participants. The lead dancer eludes jail time when her attorney persuades the judge that she has a elderly mother to take care of. The attorney then scours the local senior homes for a suitably sweet maternal type to fit the bill. At the same time, the dancer seeks her revenge by seducing the D.A.'s ambitious but naive son. But her newly acquired mama eventually exerts some influence on the girl.

Frontier scout Daniel Boone is sent out to locate the only two survivors of General Braddock's men that are believed two have lived through an Indian massacre. One of the survivors, CHarlie Bryan, witnessed the capture of his two daughters, Rebecca and Helen, by the Indians. Boone succeeds in locating and rescuing the women. Shorty afterwards, the Boone party is joined by Captain Fraser, who proves to be an intelligence officer in the French forces, and Boone's small group is captured.

Santa Dolores is a small western town that is a haven for outlaws and is ruled with an iron hand by Bruce Burnett who extracts large sums for protection from the law. Harvey Masters, a Kansas City policeman disguised as a perfume salesman, comes to town looking for the killer of his brother but is shot down in cold blood by Burnett's henchman Clip Pearson. Ted Post, posing as a cattle broker but really a Dallas Marshal on the trail of an embezzler of cattleman's association fund.

Ernie Reardon, the superintendent, and Bill O'Hara, the foreman, of a construction company crew working on a bridge to a remote valley, are constantly quarreling over small and minor matter, especially when it comes to Peg Mallory, whom both men are romancing and Peg enjoys the attention. Thed work is suspended when a worker is killed, but a flood is approaching and the valley citizens are in dire straits unless the bridge is completed - in a hurry.
