Complicated mix of Chinese history and myth, where old Shaolin friends find themselves on different sides, one a Ching general, and the other faithful to Ming. They have a bunch of wacky adventures, usually centered around conning people out of money, and eventually some bad guys kidnap a young girl so they go and beat them all up. Other than that everything else is your basic run of the mill, no better than any other kung fu film film. Ha! As the story goes, gold is stolen from the government so undercover constables do there detective work. Decent fight scenes with a lot of weapon works. Carter of course can't use weapons but his fists and kicks are equally impressive, being consistent with the rest of the film. Good ending also saves the film. After Dean Shek's wife to be was raped and murdered and also Dr Chen's wife was assaulted, Bruce Liang's character decided to take action on his own. The last quater of the movie, we have Sammo Hung who acts as a hoodlum cum drug dealer together with Bolo. As always, the end fights are splendidly done - i guess Sammo must have a hand on it.
