Follows the life of Guste Schmiedecke a working class woman in Germany through it's many cultural and social upheavals from 1884 to 1949.

Germany, during the early postwar years. A director, an author and an actor discuss a film to be made - which form, which topic can film assume during these times? They are joined by two friends of the author, a farmer's daughter and an arts dealer from Berlin. Across German screens at the outbreak of WWII streaks "DIII88: The New German Air Force Attacks", an aeronautic and maritime spectacle glorifying Hermann Goring's Luftwaffe and the spirit of the newly arisen Germany. Once war became imminent, Joseph Goebbels instructed the German film industry to initiate production of numerous militaristic projects, but DIII88 was initiated by the Propaganda Minister's rival, Goring, who commissioned several aviation pictures.

Set largely in France, England, and Spain, the film chronicles the plight of Germans caught by the outbreak of war and their frantic attempts to return to the Fatherland to join the battle. All of Germany's enemies receive equal disdain. The British, the French, the Poles, and the Jews are portrayed respectively as warmongers, profiteers and cowards. In the end, all that is important is returning to Germany.

Depicts a love triangle involving two Luftwaffe pilots being overcome by their participation in battle together. While on leave one of the pilots inspires a girl with hopes of settling in the east, a dream that no longer appeared possible.

A group of people gathers back in the post-war ruins of a luxurious Munich hotel they inhabited at one point or another years before; each trying to cope with the tragic consequences of the war and their own actions.

During the 18th century's Seven-Year War, a group of young Prussian army cadets are captured by Russian soldiers. After enduring brutal treatment, the cadets come up with a plan to escape their captors and make their way back to their lines.

The series tells stories from the childhood of a sometimes naughty, but very lovable and kindhearted young boy growing up on a farm in southern Sweden in the early 20th century. (imdb)
