Boetticher's final release is an independently produced documentary about legendary bullfighter Carlos Arruza, narrated by Anthony Quinn. A labor of love, perhaps his most personal film - Boetticher himself had been a bullfighter before going into movies. Tragically, a car crash in 1966 took the lives of Arruza and some of Boetticher's filming crew. He only directed one other film, A Time for Dying (1969). Arruza was completed and released in 1972 to strong reviews but flopped in the theaters.

Well before he made the Westerns for which he would primarily be remembered, director Budd Boetticher put together this documentary of World War II's Battle of Okinawa from footage shot by Navy cameramen in the thick of the fighting. The vital editing skills Boetticher learned from Academy Award -winning editor Barbara McLean helped him tell this complicated and protracted story with a directness and power that are both impressive and horrifying.

After four fur trappers have been slain and their furs stolen, Corporal Rod Webb of the Royal Northwest Mounted Police sets out for their village. En route he and his dog Chinook come upon another trapper, Henri, shot and lying unconscious on the trail, and the furs he was delivering to the factor, McTavish, stolen. Chinook trails the would-be-killer Muskoka and bites a piece of cloth from his coat before he escapes.

A college student takes a break and goes out to sea with his father, the captain of a shark-hunting boat. When his inexperience results in an accident in which his father and a crewman are badly injured, he tries to make up for it by rounding up another crew and going back out on the hunt. However, things don't turn out quite the way he planned.
