Radha (Waheeda Rahman), a nurse at a mental home, gets heartsick after a patient, Dev (Dharmendra), whom she cared for by her love leaves the hospital, as she had fallen in love with him. Next, writer Arun Choudhary (Rajesh Khanna) gets admitted, suffering acute mania after being jilted by his lover, Sulekha (Snehlata). After initially refusing to take his case, Radha relents & starts nursing him. Gradually Arun gets cured by her love, but Radha again falls hopelessly in love with her patient.
