Bik-kin Ho

Unable to pay his rent, Ng Tsui-choi turns to stealing to get money. When he attempts to rob Chow Yat-ching he's persuaded to give up stealing and the two become friends.

Based on the novel by Ba Jin, about a former schoolteacher, Wang Wenxuan, who is forced into an office job during the war. During this time he is slowly overco me by his mother's tyrannical influence the Japanese invasion and his own slow death from tuberculosis. (bfi.org.uk)
