Pelle and Maja are planning a vacation to Italy. Their plans come to nothing, and instead Maja travels to her mother. Pelle is persuaded by his colleague Kurt to go to the west coast of Sweden instead. Once Maja sees a Picture in the paper, with Kurt surrounded by some Lovely blondes, she has to hurry westwards to get him back.

Shoe polisher Carl-Gustaf inherits Castle Gripenholm., much to the chagrin of his other relatives. Uncle Julius is particularly upset, and he decides to get the castle back from Carl-Gustaf.
