Alkali Ike and Mustang Pete are both wooing the same woman. Ike hopes to take her for a horseback ride, but she chooses instead to go with Pete, who has a horse and carriage. Ike trades his horses for an automobile, hoping to win her over that way, but things do not work out as planned.

"Broncho Billy and the Schoolmistress" (1912, 14 minutes) is a comedy-drama about yet another girl from the East who doesn't need to be protected from the local dangers. Broncho Billy plays a passive role, and even takes a bullet when a jealous villain tries to eliminate him from the new teacher's dance card. Comedy in which Charles retaliates when Louise breaks off their engagement. Louise breaks off her engagement to Charles. Out of revenge, Charles and his friends turn Kees the milkman into a Scottish lord, who is meant to make a big impression at the ball. He dances very rudely with Louise, and out of nervousness admits that he is only a milkman. Charles responds angrily, and pretends that this was a joke that his friends had arranged; he then tries to hit Kees and his friends.

Ben Hardy, owner of the "Three 4 Ranch," receives a letter from his sister in the east, saying she is sending her little girl to visit him. Hardy is delighted and sends "Alkali" Ike to the depot to meet "the little girl" with a small burro and a doll to quiet her if she cries. "Alkali" finds her a full grown young lady, however, and is astonished when she grabs his broncho, vaults into the saddle and gallops off, leaving him to straggle back on the stubborn burro.

The lure of the footlights attracts Billy McGrath. He decides to purchase a drama, produce it and play it on Broadway. He engages a company of capable performers, but through the misunderstanding of two of the actresses the company go on a strike, and refuse to work. His booking agent emphatically tells him he will not furnish him with any more talent. The stage hands of the theater McGrath has purchased come to his assistance, by declaring that they will take the parts.
