Athanasia Moustaka

After losing his son in WWII, a poor cobbler has become a drunkard and laughing stock of the whole neighborhood, besetting his wife and his daughter. When his daughter falls in love with a rich young man, he tries in vain to hide his passion from the young man's family.

Returning to Athens after the end of the World War II, Captain Nikolas finds out what happened to his family from a neighbor. She tells him how his wife got sick, how his daughter waited in vain for her fiancee and how his son got into the resistance.

After an unsuccessful career in the United States, an unscrupulous former procurer reunites with his cabaret diva ex-lover. As he tries to take advantage of her daughter, her past threatens her future. For once, will she act like a mother?
