The film sends us to the 18th century when Bulgaria was a part of the Ottoman Empire. Four hoodlums break into the house of the shepherd Karaivan, raping and killing his wife in full view of their little girl, Maria. Karaivan decides to take the law into his own hands and raises Maria as a boy, training her to fight so that she can kill in cold blood and help her father avenge her mother's murder.

In the 13 c. Yoan Asen ruled Bulgaria. The king is good and wise ruler, but very authoritative as well. He realizes that prolonged wars have exhausted his people and decided to uphold peace by all means. His solution is to marry several times in order to protect the interests of the state. He even sends his only love to a monastery. Following his goal, King Yoan Asen sacrifices the personal happiness of his brother and his daughter as well. (imdb)

In a distant cluster of holiday villas, three men are digging a well. One day, the workers find remains of a human skeleton, a tin ring, several buttons, and a rusty belt buckle buried long ago. When the owner learns about the finding, he orders the workers to get rid of the remains discreetly, all to save himself the hassle of an investigation.
