In the idyllic landscape of Mols mountains lies Krogerød inn, where crownman Peter Jens Christian Rasmussen, together with his dominant wife, runs a highly neglected inn. There are strong forces from the holding movement in the process of depriving the inn of its alcoholic beverages, with supreme councilor Niels Kvist at the forefront. One day, a young beautiful girl comes to the inn Annemarie Poulsen, from Brabrand. She tells the chanter that he is her father.

The film shows Kronborg as it must have looked to Shakespeare when he visited the castle, if indeed he did, three centuries ago. The filmmakers run with the idea of Shakespeare visiting Hamlet’s Castle and give it filmic expression. The past returns as King Frederik II and his court gather…
