The detective has the partner come to his apartment to give him the envelope, but someone sneaks into his apartment and strangles her while the detective is in another room. Fearful that the police will suspect him of the murder, he brings the woman's body back to her own apartment, but the police find out and suspect him of the murder anyway. (imdb)

Dorian Westmore accepts an aspirin from a total stranger, Inez Palmer. She is distracted and fails to take it, but later gives it to her wealthy uncle who dies as the aspirin was poisoned. She is tried and convicted and her fiance, Peter Kane, tells her attorney, J. T. Vickers, that he is going to prove her innocence. Inez, reading about the trial and recognizing Dorian as the lady she gave to aspirin to, realizes that it was meant for her from the man she had been blackmailing, J. T. Vickers.

Daisy Baker, a Chicago "refuse collector" who fancies herself as a theatrical agent, finds a play which had been thrown away by two Portuguese playwrights. Without bothering to get permission, she sends it off to a New York producer named Rupert Shannon and he wires her to come to New York immediately. Daisy and her two showgirl friends, Gloria and Maria, arrive in New York where the two girls assume accents and pretend to be the sisters of the playwright.

George Kelly (Phillip Terry), World-War-Two vet returning home from the war, is persuaded by a local politician, John Rooney (Donald McBride), assuming that Kelly would fall in line with the entrenched establishment. But, Kelly has his own agenda and exposes a crooked political set-up in in the town and is elected on the strength of his honesty.
