The main story revolved around at Ranighat of Murshidabad District in West Bengal in the early 1950s, this is the story of a 20-year-old boy called Faltu and his quest for love and search for roots. This is also the story of a village and its people, woven around a narrative with myriad moments and a lot of dramatic events. The village people are mainly refugees from Bangladesh. Saanjhbatir Roopkathara tells the story of a young dreamer. Beautifully told, through poetry and symbolism, the movie focuses on Saanjhbathi's world. While the Saanjhbathi dreams of beauty, love and happiness, her dreams are broken by her encounter with men she meets and ultimately shattered by her father, who was her inspiration.
