ACP Pouran (Prithviraj), who had been itching to prove himself in the police force, implicates 2 street performers - Jumper Thampi (Baburaj) & Cross-belt Mani (Vinod Chemban) - after mistaking Thampi for the international terrorist Khalid Qureshi (Baburaj). They get the death sentence, but when Pouran learns that they are innocent, he tries to save them, but soon learns that the political machinery has no interest in freeing them.

A socially awkward & introvert girl, Mili (Amala Paul), is fired from her job as a daycare teacher due to a mistake, but tries to start her life anew by opening a new daycare at an apartment complex with the help of her friend Naveen (Nivin Pauly), but faces challenges along the way.

Dr. Jacob Kurien (Tovino Thomas), a corrupt doctor selling medicine illegally, in the middle of striking his latest deal with his buyer Chettiyaar, gets a hostile buyer in the form of Aniruddhan (Joju George), who kidnaps Jacob's family & holds them for ransom. As Jacob rushes with the medicine to free his family, ACP Thara Mathew (Aparna Gopinath), trying to snare Jacob, joins him as a hitchhiker. Jai Mohan (Mohanlal) is a counter-terrorism agent with the National Intelligence Agency (operating behind a fake front called 'Deccan Exports') tasked with hunting down dreaded terrorist Victor Rana (Rahul Dev). Jai meets & falls in love with Anjali Menon (Amala Paul) & tries to hide the reality about his job from her, but Anjali stumbles onto it after seeing Jai in a shootout. Sensing an opportunity here, Jai's boss Shaheed Khadar (Satyaraj) convinces the couple to let Anjali join their team.

Durgaprasad (Mammootty) & his wife Sheetal (Mansi Sharma), migrants from the state of Jharkhand & living in Kochi, try to make ends meet in the big city. When Sheetal goes into labor & the govt. hospital doctors go on a strike, Durgaprasad is forced to take her to a private hospital where they demand a hefty sum for a C-section. Forced to accept money from a terrorist for the C-section, Durgaprasad tries to make amends by foiling their plot to conduct blasts in several parts of the city.

Two different girls, the older Manjari (Asha Sharath) & the younger Manjima (Deepti Sati) enter into his life & he is torn between them, & confused about whom to choose.

Ben (Gourav Menon), a young boy, is forcibly separated by his mother Asha (Anjali Nair), from their extended family in the village & taken to the city, to have a better life. However, Ben is unable to adjust to the city & the strict school he was enrolled in, leaving him traumatized.

In Chennai, along the Koovam River, 9-year-old Dinesh's life ends tragically when he's shot by retired army officer Krishnaraja in a fit of rage.
