Faizal (Dulquer Salmaan), the only son of a rich businessman, Abdul Razak (Siddique), studies a chef's course in Switzerland against Razak's wishes. As the relation between father & son breaks, Faizal goes in search of his grandfather, Karim (Thilakan), who ran a restaurant, "Ustad Hotel', in Kozhikode. A strong bond develops between Karim & Faizal, & Faizal staves off a takeover of the hotel by the owner (Jinu Joseph) of a rich 5 star hotel nearby.

Set in late 1970s, 10 year old Vicky arrives at his grandparents home in rural Kerala to attend his grandfather's funeral. The disjointed family gathers together for the 16 day long funeral period. During this period, Vicky discovers more about himself, his family & culture than he had expected to.
