Dorothy never seems to notice anything odd about this situation -- which renders it all the funnier -- while Al St. John builds up quite a head of steam in what amounts to a ten-minute slow burn, worthy of Edgar Kennedy at his best. Directed by and stars Al St. John and the first half is a little below average. It's a variation on the sort of rustic comedies his uncle, Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle, used to star in with Mabel Normand almost a decade earlier. The gags, while reasonable and appropriate, are, like the cows, milked too much. The pretty girl is swinging on a swing, reading a newspaper and knocks four of her suitors and her father into the water, with a long, slow-motion shot of them plunging into the depths. (imdb)

Nominally about attempts to steal a gold mine, the movie starts out with the air of a realistic comedy, then immediately descends into a series of perfectly timed gags which made me goggle at their improbability -- not the sort of thing you normally think of in a slapstick comedy. Very quickly the unerring ability of ropes to loop themselves around tree roots, stopping Al from plummeting to his death or an explosion to drop him on a bull came to make me goggle again.

It's love among the elite in this Keystone from 1915, in which normal-looking people in well-fitting clothes go through the same sort of hi-jinks that the hoi polloi do. It's a couple of minutes before the first weird mustache appears and it took me twice that to recognize that bright eyed, lanky girl with the snub nose as Louise Fazenda.

Pa Droppington sneaks out of the house to go to the theatre. Amid comic capers he is smitten by a dancer. Meanwhile his son is telling Ma that he's in love with a dancer! She is not happy but he takes her to the theatre (for her birthday). She sees hubby and chases him around, he's also chased by another performer. Al St. John plays a hearing-impaired burglar who bumbles his way through a suburban break-in. One wonders how a criminal of such incompetence could be responsible for a "200 per cent" increase in burglary, but the premise is just an excuse for St. John to obliviously destroy household furnishings.

If you enjoy playing "Spot the Stars", this is the sort of short you'd enjoy. It's full of then-well-known Hollywood players, identified by name, who run through routines. This one, produced by Tiffany, is not particularly good as people run through canned bits, sometimes without much enthusiasm. Robert Woolsey plays a game a solitaire and it's hard to tell whether his bit was written that way or he improvised it to reflect his feelings.

College football player is expelled for ticket scalping, and teams up with reporter to expose his school's hypocrisy.

Our comic hero gets involved with comic dogs before he gets to the hotel, where the owner of another pooch (the animals are well trained) proves to be the father of fetching Hutton. Al finds himself competing with the great white hunter and preventing his chum tumbling down a cliff in the leaf house strapped to the real elephant's back.

A lawman stages a prison break so a gang of imprisoned robbers will lead him to their hidden loot.

With the railroad coming to Red Rock, trouble is expected and Billy has been sent ot help his friend Fuzzy who is the town's Sheriff, Judge, and barber. When the man that sent Billy is murdered and the railroad location map stolen, broken match sticks point to Vic Landreau. While Billy tries to find the missing map, Landreau suspects Billy is on to him and plans to have him killed.

Bringing a herd of cattle to Dave Crockett, Billy halts before going through the pass where many herds have been rustled. He is right as there are two men after Crockett's ranch and packing plant which will be theirs if Crockett fails to pay off his note. When their attempt to get Crockett's son in financial trouble is broken up by Billy and their men fail to rustle the herd, they then poison the water hole.

Billy arrives to buy Barkley's cattle and gets involved in Landreau's scheme to get Barkley's ranch. When Landreau kills Barkley he takes the money Billy paid him. But Billy had been wounded earlier and blood got on the money. Billy suspects Landreau and needs to get into his safe and see his money.

When Fuzzy's niece is killed in a stage holdup, Billy and Fuzzy go after the killers. They catch Tryon only to have him shot before he can talk. When Gordon confesses he is also killed. But Billy has a plan. He announces Gordon is alive and will shortly name the killer. (imdb)

This 18th entry, of 19, in PRC's "Billy the Kid" series (first six starring Bob Steele and the last 13 with Buster Crabbe) finds town banker John Martin (Karl Hackett) calling on Billy (Buster Crabbe) and Fuzzy (Al St. John) for help in capturing the men that robbed his bank. Billy figures that sooner or later some of the money will be put in circulation and, through the serial numbers, the outlaws can be identified.

When Billy Carson's uncle is lynched as a supposed rustler, Billy arrives looking for the murderers. He finds that Steve Kirby holds a forged note on his Uncle's ranch. When Kirby sees that Billy means trouble for him, he has him framed for murder. Then just as he is inciting the mob to lynch him, Billy's new friend Doc Jones is trying to break him out of jail.

A gang of swindlers led by Nord Finner take advantage of simple-minded Fuzzy Jones by "advising" him through a "mysterious voice" which he believes is that of a deceased Indian chief. Fuzzy persuades his fellow townsmen to join him in buying worthless property, but Billy Carson comes trotting onto the scene. (imdb)

Kirby sends his henchmen to break killer Matt Brawley out of jail. But Brawley has already broken out and they return with Fuzzy instead. Realizing they think he's Brawley, Fuzzy plays the part. His son Don favors keeping the gold rather than returning it to the express company to which it rightfully belongs, and steals the map, only to find himself menaced by outlaw leader Cal and his gang.

An orphan boy on his way to live with his uncle picks up a stray dog, and the two become fast friends. However, the uncle doesn't want the dog, and when chickens are found dead, the uncle accuses the dog of killing them. The boy decides that it's time he and the dog hit the road so they run away, and meet up with an elderly man who also ran away from a home where he believed he wasn't wanted either.

Tom Evans is a young cowboy orphaned by a band of rustlers. Seeking revenge, Tom pretends to be a notorious ex-con and manages to worm his way into the gang in order to get the goods on the bunch.

Fatty is the suffering spouse who comes home every night to an empty house and a neglectful wife. His wife is furious when she discovers Fatty is cheating on her with a neglected wife.

Judd and his gang are driving the ranchers away. When Lash and Fuzzy arrest them, the Sheriff lets them go. Lash expected this and he hopes to follow them to their leader, the person he is really after.

To fight Kirby and his gang, Tom Grant sends for Cheyenne Davis. To get money the ranchers need, Davis brings in wanted outlaws and sends Fuzzy to collect the rewards. But Fuzzy is waylaid on the return and loses his memory. Now neither Cheyenne or the outlaws know where the money is.

Lash and Fuzzy sent to help John Watson with his stage line arrive to find him murdered. Recognizing the outlaws they trail them to their leader Baxter. But before Baxter can tell who the big boss is he is shot. After getting the stage through to assure the mail contract, Lash now realizes who the boss is.

The Marshal sends Lash and Fuzzy south of the border where McCord runs a smuggling operation. His chief henchman, known as the Frontier Phantom, is Lash's brother and it's not long before the two brothers meet.

It's twenty years after Pat Garrett supposedly killed Billy the Kid. In this version Billy survived and is now a respected banker. Outlaws are after the money in his bank but a whip carrying man dressed in black arrives to help him out and his name just happens to be Garrett.
