Yeah, I went against the odds predicting clout would loose to substance. Wishful thinking I suppose. George Clooney declared that Hollywood is his town and he made it stick. And IMNTBHO, Affleck has been looking a little embarrassed coming down the stretch here, while Clooney has been looking defiant. Is he ever gonna come out? Someone's gonna pay for not nominating Affleck for best director, letting Ang Lee win it for Life of Pi, further letting the cat out of the bag that it was receiving the real award for best pic by default. Everybody knows best director and best film are inseparable categories, or they should anyway.

BTW, that's gotta be the worst Academy Awards show ever. Everybody's timing was off and looked on edge--Jennifer Hudson excepted, who deserves an Oscar for proving the best revenge is living well. Almost all the humor was either nervous flat or over-the-top stupid--or both. Lavish sets but nothing worth showing. I mean the infantile song about boobs, Ted's near inflammatory routine, and trying to decide whether to turn the spotlight on Barbara Streisand or not, confirming it was indeed her there, begging the obvious question, why? And would somebody please give Charlize Theron a suppository so it could keep that bug company.

On a serious note, my favorite body/dress combo was Halle Berry's. No comment on her hair.

Deserved win for Danna.. Don't know about the rest.. DDL is probably the best living actor, but he didn't need another oscar to prove that.. I would have picked Phoenix.. And Waltz pretty much carried the first 3/4 or so of Django with his performance (after he dies the movie collapses), so also a deserved win imho (but yes it's pretty much a rehash of his Basterds role).

You know I hadn't seen many films that were nominated yesterday (if memory serves me correctly I have just seen The Master, Argo, and Moonrise Kingdom), but there was one award that kind of struck me as odd: Life of Pi winning for cinematography. I haven't seen it, but much of the film (at least from what I've seen) seems to be CGI. I just don't get how that and cinematography go together. I have no problem with it winning the oscar for visual effects (which I think is more CGI centered). I don't know maybe I'm still bitter that the academy snubbed Mihai Malaimare in the category for The Master.

Phoenix winning would have been amazing, but no chance. His inflammatory comments about the Oscars have probably dug him a pretty deep hole (not that he cares, he was seen shaking his head when the announced him).

Why was he there in the first place?

Film sucked anyway.

I am sure his agent talked him into, not appearing ungrateful, getting future work etc. etc. He is a good actor but not to the level where he can completely piss on everyone and have them grin and thank him for it. lol

The Academy's fault is allowing Phoenix's comments to cloud their judgment.

Yeah, like Nicholson or Clooney, but even Nicholson smiles every once in a while. Phoenix is an excellent actor, including in this one, but the character and the story were phft.

They probably had a revenge cut set up (but pulled at the last minute) about John Wilkes Boothe being a harelip--or something. Wul hell, it'd've fit right in.

Not sure where this thread went, but i was pretty disappointed with the overall results, a lot different then how i voted.

Besides Actor; though DDL makes sense, I though he may have over acted a bit in Lincoln and he didn't need another award simply to prove what everyone already knows; he's the greatest living actor.
Best Actress; Jennifer Lawrence sucked. Jessica Chastain deserved it... it's a shame Bigelows awful reputation effect Chastain's ability to win this much deserved award.
Supporting Actor; As I stated earlier. TLJ not only deserved this award, his performance was best of any actor/actress in 2012. What a shame.
Supporting Actress; I voted for Field, couldn't care either way.

Cinematography; I agree with the Life of Pi was too much CGI to be considered for this category. The Master (which wasn't even nominated) should have won. Life of Pi won Visual Effects (which it may have deserved). Giving it both Cinematography & Visual Effects is overkill.

Writing Original Screen Play; Django was my vote and Tarantino deserved it.
Writing Adapted Screen Play; Lincoln should have at-least won this if not given best picture. Life of Pi was poorly adapted IMO.

Directing; Ang Lee has done better. Spielberg got robbed.

Picture; I liked Argo and it was one of the earliest Oscar films I saw in 2012 and i thought it was special. However there are plenty (Lincoln included) of films nominated which were better.
