I'm submitting and editing a lot of Korean shows at the moment, and many the actors/creators/directors whatever have their names typed backwards. I've edited this wherever I've seen it.
So, for instance "Lee Pil-mo" would be "Pil-mo Lee" and I just thought someone, for some reason, added in every Korean name backwards. But on revisiting some of my submissions, I found that a few of the actors I submitted had their names edited. No-one had changed any of the actors in the log. I had noticed this once with a Japanese release or two as well.

Was one of the examples. I edited "So-Hyun Kim" back to "Kim So-hyun"

Is there a problem with names, specifically Korean names, flipping around?

Here's what I mean. I took a screenshot. "Young-jun bae" and "Ji-Woo Chi" The actual names are "Bae Yong-joon" and "Choi Ji-woo". Someone either added it like that, or it got flipped. My assumption was it was added badly originally, but given that it has happened to some of my submissions after I added the title - I am wondering if there's some glitch.

That is strange -- during moderation, we adhere to however IMDB has the names written. However, there might be something about the hyphens causing an issue at some point in the process.
We'll take a look!

I have also noticed this on some Chinese and Japanese entries, as if someone did last name, and then first name.

Adding this here even though it's not exactly related, but I just watched Luo Ye Gui Gen and noticed on the page that the main actor in the film wasn't listed on the Criticker page. I added him on, following IMDB's naming pattern Benshan Zhao (given name, family name). I went to his page and found it empty, so I added his picture. Then I went to see if he was missing from some of his other movies. However, I found him listed in Happy Times (2000) and a few other films. His name is listed on those movies as Zhao Benshan (family name, given name). How do you remedy a situation like this?

We use IMDB as our source of truth. It's not a perfect database, but allows us to delegate the decision making on things like this, which is extremely useful given our small team. So, for example, if IMDB has the name as "Zhao Benshan" that's what we'll go with in situations of conflict.boomdiddly wrote: ↑Thu Oct 10, 2024 5:01 pmAdding this here even though it's not exactly related, but I just watched Luo Ye Gui Gen and noticed on the page that the main actor in the film wasn't listed on the Criticker page. Thanks for your response!
Sorry, I don't think I was clear in my previous post. On IMDB he is Benshan Zhao: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0955482/
but here on Criticker he is Zhao Benshan:
https://www.criticker.com/people/Zhao-Benshan/
I'm glad to have all his movies on one page, though I had thought they would be ported the other way. I'll continue putting names in the IMDB order when I submit/update a film unless told otherwise. I'm curious if perhaps IMDB has changed the way they list these kinds of names, which might mean there could be discrepancies even from people who are following the model? I'm guessing the IMDB page may have changed the order of his name sometime between 2013 (when the last movie he's listed in was added to Criticker) and 2024.
