Darren Aronofsky's Next Project

Let's be honest, Aronofsky bought the rights to Perfect Blue so he could film the bathtub scene in Requiem for a Dream. I doubt at that time he had the idea of ripping off the film. Now, I haven't seen Perfect Blue and I won't dispute that there are similarities (Aronofsky himself has admitted as much), but from what I've read (a few opinions on the internet, the plot synopsis), I don't know how Black Swan can be called a blatant ripoff. I think a lot of people are upset that he didn't give enough credit to Satoshi Kon, and I understand that, but that doesn't make the film horrible or a ripoff.

So what? Has any autobiography of a wrestler been made into a dramatic film before? He made a fictional film about wrestlers that many of us would have never seen otherwise (personally I haven't read any autobiographies and do not seek out wrestling documentaries). And that idea might not be extremely original, but it's true to the wrestling industry. A number of pro wrestlers have praised the film.

Yeah, "The Wrestler" is a very good film, and Aronofsky did a fine job directing it. I'm not disputing that. I just can't give him credit for the writing, that's all.

Oh, but he was willing to work with an asshole like David O. Russell on The Fighter? The guy is notorious for going off on his cast (see this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4Qls1rAfYs). Maybe him and Bale just have similar personalities? (can't forget this gem- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5VGFIQJ4ww). Like I said earlier Bale probably sees this as a few more opportunities to work with Terrence Malick (who I'm not a huge fan of, but wouldn't call him a hack). I don't think you can interpret his rejection of the role as a rejection of Aronofsky especially when Bale said nothing to lead anybody to that conclusion.

Anyways, while I dislike David O Russell way more than I do Aronofsky (at least Aronofsky's films are technically excellent, and range from mediocre to very good), I wouldn't call David O Russell a hack per se.

Just a really lousy and overrated director who is too in love with his own perceived brilliance.

I forgot to mention I also watched a youtube video of the similarities between Perfect Blue and Black Swan (which can be found here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KbN2sWFOfe4). I agree there were numerous similarities (and Aronofsky should have probably just came out and made a stronger statement about these similarities), some which were very similar (the paintings talking and moving, some of the reflections in mirrors/windows) while others I didn't find that similar (I don't know how that photography scene in Perfect Blue is anything like the scene where Natalie Portman touches herself, the video compares the character in Perfect Blue mutilating herself by crushing a glass to Portman scratching herself, and a few other things are a stretch). And from reading the plot synopsis (it doesn't help me see the whole thing, but it's a start) it sounds like in Perfect Blue the main character has a conflict with her manager who is posing as her and the film is mainly about the confusion the main character undergoes as she tries to make sense out of things done by the person posing as her. In Black Swan, the film is all about Portman's psychological struggle of trying to become the Black Swan. It seems that Perfect Blue is more of a conflict between the main character and her poser, while Black Swan is more of Portman's psychological conflict. Again, I'm not denying the similarities (they are definitely there), but I think in the end they seem like different films. Of course, I say all of this without having seen Perfect Blue.

Aw, man. Why would you willingly spoil a great movie like "Perfect Blue" for yourself by watching clips of its most dramatic scenes and reading plot synopsis'?

Just go into it cold and enjoy the experience. As it is, you're just lowering your possible enjoyment of it.

If anyone cares, it seems like Fassbender is no longer in the mix (if he ever was). Disappointing, but I guess he didn't really fit the "Noah" type anyway. Now it seems Aronofsky is focused on recruiting both Russell Crowe and Liam Neeson to the project. Crowe would play Noah, while Neeson would play the so called villain who thinks Noah is pretty much delusional (http://screenrant.com/russell-crowe-liam-neeson-aronofsky-noah-sandy-149326/).

Saw this in the news the other day...

Apparently Russel Crowe got lost kayaking during an excursion from the filming of Darren Aronofskys "Noah" movie.

Got a chance to see what he'll look like playing the role; kinda weird to see the former gladiator looking like an old bald fat guy with man boobs.
