Hey different strokes for different folks. Personally Aronofsky is one of my favorite directors, and you may not like him, and I understand that. I feel the same with some other directors (cough... Terrence Malick ... cough).

The Noah idea sounds silly to me, but I actually quite liked Requiem for a Dream, so what do I know?
Now that's quite surprising. Of all the people here, I certainly didn't expect TheDenizen to think highly of "Requiem for a Dream"; shallow, juvenile message aside (don't do drugs kids, mmkay?!), it relied on third-rate body horror and "disturbing" imagery to create tension.
Well surely, if it was boring, tame, and yawn-inducing for me, it must be the case for TheDenizen, who is used to way more disturbing shit, right?

Sure the message is trite and heavy handed, but it's got Jennifer Connelly going ass to ass with another chick....that's a winner in my book.
I should have known. TheDenizen might have high standards when it comes to the violence and gore in his films, but he's a real push-over for any kind of sex and nudity.
Overall I liked Black Swan. Melodrama done right. I'd have to agree with shogunrua ( ) about reqiuem for a dream though. some good ideas but it was just too much.
And the message was a bit too subtle - I mean, I know the black guy ends up being smacked around in prison, the girl has to whore herself in super degrading ways to feed her addiction, and the guy loses an arm or two, but are drugs good or bad goddamn it? (yes I know that wasn't the only point being made but come on - there's over the top to make an aritistic statement and then there's reqiuem for a dream).

I vote GOOD. I don't know, I hated Requiem but could not help liking (loving?) Black Swan. Aronofsky presents simple questions and simple answers, but simple is not the same as facile or stupid.

i'm leaning toward "bad," but am admittedly still undecided
I agree that Requiem wasn't very good, but since then Aronofsky's just gotten better with each film (haven't seen Black Swan yet), which does make me interested in what he does next. He's talked about this Noah's ark idea before and I don't know if I'm entirely on board with it, but I'm sure he'll find some interesting way to approach it.
