I get the same thing with music. there's a certain turn of phrase you get with Purcell or Rameau, that you just don't hear. i think it's partly a structural thing (as well as fashion). And in reverse, you can't don't hear Dowland/Byrd atmospherics in baroque.
tho it's funny how Wes Anderson appropriated Ravel, and now that string symphony sounds inescapably Andersonny to me.
but it does trickle, sieve down culturally. like Kokofreakbean saying Jean Rollin is his fave Director. then i try to find that in Wormhole. Tourneur remnants will be here similarly.
