iBoy plays out like a YA adaptation of a Guy Ritchie film. It's sleekly produced and competently balances fun action sequences with character depth (mainly from Williams performance). The sci-fi concept at the heart of the film is flawed but at 90 minutes, the film doesn't overstay its welcome.

Maisie does a really good job here, but the movie itself isn't particularly interesting, probably due to the dialog, plot, and sophomoric implementation. A hacking bar? Really? And if you have control over all electronic devices, phones, and cameras, why physically follow anyone? And why not use all that tech to just get evidence or frame your targets? Because Drama? If you write your way into a corner write your way out, don't make the audiance pay for your mistakes.

Skillfully polished, and somewhat to its detriment: the concept is too silly for the execution, and uncomfortable tropes and cliches hold the film far back from transcending it, despite a surprisingly nuanced performance from Maisie Williams. (Culture Night Feature)

iBoy was exciting and suspenseful throughout. Maisie Williams plays a girl who is raped by some local gang members. Bill Milner plays her friend/crush who ends up showing up at her house at the worst time. The sci-fi portion of the film starts after that when Milner's character is endowed with the ability to control electronics. The movie becomes a relatable super-hero story from the moment that iBoy decides to fight back. I liked the acting and the story was engaging.

Though not the worst movie I've ever witnessed, iBoy is no joyride. It's a predictable, edgy, and dumb, mix of The Hunger Games and Nerve, which really has no place in the sci-fi canon. It's premise is dumb, its writing is sloppy, and its direction holds nothing special. A good one to miss, if you're to miss some films this year.

It sounds childish and unlikely but forget your prejudices and it turns out to be an enjoyable flick. My opinion here : http://opinion-as-a-moviefreak.blogspot.be/2017/02/iboy-2017.html [Full review]

It was a high concept film with very grounded and realistic themes at the centre of the film. Had it been hacking or the powers Tom was given the message of the film stays the same. Anyone will rise up and fight if they continue to be bullied. Maisie Williams was the stand out in this film, adding levels to her character Lucy. iBoy is a very dark film in subject matter and tone and that may stop some people from watching this film but I certainly recommend it.A much different film than most.
