Of course, no movie with Roger Moore is a classic, but this tongue-in-cheek spy thriller with the actor playing against his James Bond stereotype provides some good, campy entertainment.

decent and enjoyable old-school action thriller with Anthony Perkins as the bad guy holding offshore oil rigs ransom and Roger Moore as the eccentric genius there to stop them. And also starring James Mason and Michael Parks.

Playing the kind of pithy, authoritative character than Bond perhaps could or should have been, Roger Moore clearly has more fun here than playing 007. Comedic hero aside, the plot feels almost plausible and the director does a great job of handling myriad characters without confusing us. Tension is built up using good old-fashioned writing rather than flashy visuals. A really solid hostage thriller with an eccentric main character you want to see more of. More rewarding than a box of kittens.
