Zulu

not so good

I suppose if you drop 90 mins of violence, sex and retribution into the apartheid horrors of a country you might end up with a film that exposed some of the real atrocities of that time. On the other hand, you might end up with Zulu, which was a just a typical pair of dysfunctional cops thwarting a huge gang of psychopathic, but apparently stupid, killers in fairly ludicrous shootouts against a backdrop of "SA anarchy" . If Bloom chewing biltong and acting macho is your thing, you might like it

For better or worse, when people bemoan the film industry's concentration of capital and output, they are lamenting the loss of movies like this. (It even has an untimely Wilhelm scream in the audio mix.) Orlando Bloom saying, "I hope you don't mind an insomniac Zulu calling you at all hours to dispense justice in the Rainbow Nation," in a poor South African accent will probably haunt me for years to come.

An excellent crime thriller set in present day (2013) South Africa. Fine performances, especially from Whitaker.

Really really boring! Gave me nothing!!

The title and movie description is misleading. You may think this is is simple crime movie, but it goes much deeper (and more violent) than that. Only in South Africa can a story about retribution have such an impact. Also a great performance by Forest Whitaker.
