Zu Warriors

Hark's attempt to remake his 1983 film "Zu: Warriors from the Magic Mountain" with a better cast and effects, but most of it comes across as bewildering.

If there was a reason for anything that happened in this movie, I was unable to discern it. The special effects were not earth-shattering. I would have been happy if this was a good film, but it wasn't.

a mess

This is based on hundreds, if not thousands of pages of Chinese mythology, so if you are not up to speed on this, you will probably be as lucky as I was. Still, I appreciate the imagination involved. Tsui Hark has referred to this as the "Chinese Star Wars" and he certainly shoots for the moon when staging his outrageous and often nonsensical action scenes. So while your brain might be completely befuddled, your imagination and eyeballs will never be the same.
