48 Hours as rewritten by the social justice department of tumblr. The adult in me was disappointed by a movie (complete with key words such as "ignorant" and "small-minded") about as subtle as Paul Haggis' Crash. The parent in me was faced with a film that is PREACHING tolerance to my son, which is in no way bad. I guess I'm just more accustomed to less obvious brainwashing, but I'm also American, so...Go Trump! My real complaint is too Ted-like: who has time for funny when plot plot plot?

Zootopia is a meaningful message movie about anthropomorphic animals made by Disney. Who saw that coming? You can expect the "be yourself" message, which is here, but a film using its animals allegorically to talk about racism and sexism? Well, it worked. Zootopia is a fantastic film not just because of how effectively it delivers its important message, but because of how it combines that with its great animation, fantastic voice work, intriguing film noir plot, and hysterical sense of humor.

Wait, so these characters are intolerant if they think that predators have a predatory nature? An enlightened predator can - what - just decide to be a vegetarian? It's obvious there's an agenda here. I feel really preached to, and I'm still not sure what the logical conclusion is. Yes, I thought the movie was fun, but I'm not finding the aftertaste too good.

Did Disney of all studios just make a shockingly clever allegorical film about racism? Yes, yes they did. But seriously, Zootopia is clever, funny and meaningful in more ways than I expected, this is the very definition of a pleasant surprise.

The animation is absolutely adorable. Funny & extremely cute movie. Good for all ages. The plot was a bit preachy & heavy handed about politically correct attitudes. Despite its flaws is it so darn cute & the animals were full of expression & had character. The pacing was fairly brisk with only a few slow moments. I liked almost all of it, & enjoyed the subtle details & ever present humor. Voices & music was very good. The atmosphere was quite immersive, due to the extreme attention to detail.

I have to say that I've never seen multiple audiences react so on-cue and with such enthusiasm (gasping, clapping, dying) to anything as when I saw the trailer before Star Wars, which was just the sloth scene, and then the scene proper, which is a nice lesson in not revealing all the good jokes by simply writing one worth revealing over and over again. But then you gotta write the rest!

Some of the prettiest, most detailed animation I’ve probably ever seen in a movie. I world building and universe are very interesting. I’d love to see more of this! I think the movie is mostly pretty clever with the topic of racism too. It’s actually very funny and really well rounded. I loved the voice work and grew to love both of the lead characters. This was an excellent change of pace for Disney’s animated filmography.

Brisk but solid worldbuilding, beautiful animation with amazing background detail, strong characterization and a surprisingly sharp and well-constructed mystery plot make for an all-around good film, one I'd actually rank comfortably above last year's hyped-to-high-heaven Inside Out. It's kind of predictable, sure, but it's a kid's film and all. Maybe a little hamfisted in its "message," but, again, kid's film.

Tolerance is good. Working hard for your dreams is good! Not getting recognised after all hard work is good - leads to working harder. Tolerance is good. Drugs are bad. High morale is important. Asking help from a mob boss is ok, as long as it helps you. Tolerance is good. Being one foot backwards is good (see tolerance). Responsibility is important. Resigning after you make a mess is good. Tolerance is good. Shakira is a gazelle. Sloths are funny, because they are slow. Haha! Tolerance is good.

here, different peoples are biologically distinct species, with the largest natural dichotomy being the black-and-white (har har) distinction of predator and prey. race is not a social category: we should learn to accept our inherent natural differences in the name of diversity. and who is to prevent us from howling into the dark, savage night? surely not the feckless civil service, infested by the corrupt. no, only that ever-elusive "good cop" can rule the state of nature. also an iphone ad.

Another brilliant film from Disney. It's one of the wittiest animated films I have seen with many kid-firendly adult jokes for adults to enjoy and equally many jokes for kids to enjoy. The cast is great all around and there should be a special mention for the visuals as I think it's easily one of the best looking animated films to date. Continuing the trend of Disney animation being better than Pixar, this is a very fun story with social commentary that is woven into the film very organically and actually explores the complexity of the topic rather than just preaching. A solid buddy-cop detective tale provides a convenient basis for a thorough and engaging exploration of the vibrant Zootopia-a modern city cleverly contorted to house anthropomorphic animals of all kinds (the DMZ sloths, Mr. Big, and the nude commune were three hilarious highlights)-which, in turn, was the perfect setting for a pointed discussion (heavy-handed at times) on racial stereotyping and discrimination. An imaginative and well voiced and animated film with a good-if not nuanced-message.

Was not expecting this animated film to be a pretty fun buddy cop movie with well characterized talking animals and godfather references. They even go as far as to hint at the planet of the apes advanced evolved nature of the animals. Despite the politically correct agendas galore and SJW stuff shoehorned in it's still a fun flick. However they missed a good opportunity to show a naked shivering human in a cage being poked at with sticks by little apes.

Though filled with enough reasonable charm, enjoyable lead characters and a few genuinely funny comedic moments, Zootopia is a rather bland and lazy Disney Films entry. The structure is disjointed, the world uninspiring and the jokes crammed with easy pop culture references for adults to digest. But what is worse is the poorly handled and blatantly pandering themes of inclusion and xenophobia, handled with as much subtly as a 3rd grader's English speech. But as they say; "it's a kid's movie".

This hits me as one of those high-level efforts from Disney, on the level of a Big Hero 6, and I would put it up against the best that the Disney-Pixar combination has to offer as well. This movie is ridiculously well-rounded; it's a great "family night at the movies" flick, it's a great date night flick, it's a great solo viewing. It's just plain great. I love the dynamics of the city, and both the subtle and overt allegories to racism and segregation. Deceptively smart. Do yourself the favour.

As far as pop hints go, from The Godfather as a kingpin rat to a singer that is voiced by Shakira but talks like Gaga and a Breaking Bad twist, Zootopia hits the mark that Frozen and Big Hero missed. Like Wreck-it Ralph, it's Disney being self-conscious to please grown-ups, with remarks about drugs (the plant that turns predators wild), nudity, prejudice and the own animation universe -- the pirate movie FLOATEN looks great, by the way. Better than the Marvel universe -- no matter what phase.

Well, I didn't hate it. While well-intentioned, the film feels like it's all over the place--a series of vignettes designed to teach lessons rather than to simply be. That I liked some of the lessons (don't mistreat people of a different class) more than others (you can be whatever you want) doesn't change the fact that the film is way too didactic for my taste. An easy chemistry between the two leads and Idris Elba voicing the chief kept things moving along well.

But this good-vs.-evil tale set in a world of anthropomorphized animals is more that surface sweet. Such a funny and cute way to comment on such current topics, way to go Disney! Apart from celebrating the "we're all different and that's good" and "you can do everything if you want it" messages, this movie very carefully and cleverly showed what racism, sexism and blatant prejudices do to our society. This is one of the most insightful and timely animated movies ever made. Zootopia is a little too on-the-nose about its contemporary themes at times (and there might be too many moral lessons to keep track of), but otherwise their execution is perfect. The voice acting is top notch, and the animation of the animals is incredibly detailed and lush. One of the most clever and subversive children's films in years, ZOOTOPIA uses cute animals and sly humor to explain the pernicious effect of discrimination and stereotyping. One of the better kids movies in recent years. Sure it's not exactly subtle, but for a kids movie I have to at least give it credit for taking such a risk with its subject matter. Phenomenal world building on display, with absolutely gorgeous animation. The one thing I wasn't exactly on board with was the humor. It seemed a little bit broad/obvious and not just in a cute little kid way either. That said the world building was very well done. A sequel in this instance would actually be welcomed.

This kind of reminded me of Monsters Inc. in terms of plot (with the mystery being the core), but without as much of the focus and emotional grit of that movie. The film is gorgeously produced, the incredibly detailed scenery is imaginative, and the two leads are a really fun pairing. The message behind the movie is somewhat banal/expected, but it's handled quite well. Its reliance on genre formula dragged it down a bit (especially in the final act), but overall, this was a cute and clever movie--both in its comedy and social commentary. The latter of which wasn't subtle at all, but it was still surprisingly effective, especially in light of the target demographic. Even one of the lesser third act twists worked in service of the movie because of how neatly it tied into the movie's racial themes. Props are also due for the visual gags and attention to detail.

How it allows the movie to present a buffet of themes, instead of the most commonly repeated one - "We are all different and it's okay." Enjoyed the characters and the look of the world. Great parable about race and about our species in general

Probably the best family film you'll ever see about racism and prejudice.

In this movie, animals solve crime. My kids said it was "awesome," but they say that about every damn cartoon that comes along, short of THE NUT JOB. It struck me as something you'd sit through early on a Saturday morning before all the really cool cartoons started. I did not respond to the whole "message" aspect of this movie, but that is maybe because the snot-nosed brat behind me kept kicking my damn seat all night.

Disney trying to cram an agenda and message down our throats. Sorry but no, a bunny cannot be as strong as a rino if she puts her mind to it.

Ramping up the anthropomorphic animals angle to ludicrous degrees, this film has so many delirious takes that it takes sloths working at the DMV to give you a chance to catch your breath. Witty and fun with hilarious celebrity voice work.

I liked the message behind the story better than the actual story. That being said the movie was decent enough with lots of older pop culture references thrown in there for the parents. The whole thing just seemed too run of the mill in terms of story structure and I found myself checking out at times in between the good jokes.

Now this one was really made for parents; it is slightly like a Disney "Naked Weapon" with clever background and lush animation. The characters are stereotypically relatable (which is an extremely hard thing to achieve. I mean you can see Homicide, Se7en, Lethal Weapon in Nick; but he still manages to be a cute, wise-ass fox at the same time). I didn't expect to watch a Disney animation with references to Meth-cooking and nudist camps in my lifetime but here it is. World is an interesting place.
