A medicine professor loses his wife; she leaves with their daughter into arms of another man. The doctor is dying of sorrow; eventually he gets brutally robbed while drunk. This movie was filmed during times when actors knew how to use a body language, facial expressions and the tone of their voices perfectly. The music, although fitting, is only a small part of several mood creating factors. Camera movements are thought over and you can spot several well composed landscapes thanks to that (I just love how the lake with boats looks like as a whole!). Summarising, Jerzy Hoffman did a great job adapting the Dolega - Mostowicz's book. Info: more drama than a romance.
