The July 3rd, 1973 historic concert of the 'leper Messiah'. This was to be David Bowie's last concert with the the Ziggy persona and the Spiders from Mars. A great medley of 'Wild Eyed Boy From Freecloud'/'All The Young Dudes'/'Oh! You Pretty Things', a Lou Reed cover, and a Rolling Stones cover are but some of the highlights. (IMDB)

The closest a concert film has ever come to Brakhage. Ethereal reaching for religious apexes. Mick Ronson's guitar solo during Moonage Daydream, when he leans into the audience, is like a moment from creation.

It's not my favorite Bowie, and Pennebaker's style doesn't really add much to the affair.

The children of the night, what music they make. A very special moment in music history documented in superb fashion.

FUCK. Bowie is gone. I can't believe it. He was so young. In Bowie years he was barely 25. This isn't a bad way to mourn. Lots of Hunky Dory and Ziggy Stardust, as well as a nice VU cover.

Incredible. The power of Bowie's performance is unmatched. Astounding how powerful the force of rock'n'roll could be on the audience back in the day.

A colossal disappointment - even if it wasn't Bowie's alltime farewell after all, Pennebaker still blows a valuable opportunity on redundant concert footage in lieu of real insight.

A classic concert and essential for any fan of the Ziggy Stardust era.
