There are two stories going on here: one focuses on the sexual tension between two slackers, the other deals with the tribulations of producing a picture with no budget but an enthusiastic cast. The first element is tired and irritating, full of the same contrived obstacles and copouts. The second is far more interesting, and Smith is a much better commentator on filmmaking than he is on "ugly dude scores hot chick who is exactly like him." Unfortunately, the sentimentality prevails.

It has its moments, but overall, this film didn't too much for me at all. It takes far too long to get to the main part of the film and even that isn't that great. The ending isn't too hot either. Not a fan.

A typical romantic comedy, but instead of overusing the word love, they use fuck. I laughed a few times, but it's absolutely nothing special. The acting isn't always good and the story is very predictable. It's ok if you have low expectations. Rogen is cute and sexy (yeah, he's damn sexy).

Zack and Miri Make a Porno is a weird comedy that doesn't have a ton of comedy inside it. Trust me, I'm familiar with the Kevin Smith formula, so I'm not necessarily surprised, but films like Mallrats and Clerks have some genuine comedy involved. This relies on wry wit through dialogue, which granted does land a lot, but makes the movie feel overlong and a little dry. It's an eye-catching title and there's a lot to like, but I'm pretty unimpressed by this effort.

If you enjoy the stylised rude dialogue and can handle the cringingly bad pacing and very patchy acting this is a worthwhile rental. Kevin Smith films have a genuine heart at their centre which made this quite an enjoyable romp for me.

I do like the idea of a young couple living together without sex. Worth to explore. The similar set Barbara Streisand did with Jeff Bridges in The Mirror Has Two Faces. The story is good as far as they start to shoot the thing. Everything in the latter part is pretty downhill according the beginning. Even always funny Seth went down with it.

For the earlier work of Rogen’s career, this isn’t bad. It has the typical writing etiquette of most of his career, and sometimes the more raunchier sequences seem a little too much, but this does have a little bit of genuine tension behind it. The Rogen/Banks duo has a little something there. Unfortunately, this doesn’t do that much to really make itself standout amongst Rogen’s filmography, and feels like it gets slightly lost in the shuffle of most of his work. Not bad though.

Zack and More Make a Porno is exactly the kind of cheap comedy that has push along Kevin Smith's career as a director. Smith's more recent films have tried to skirt the line between raunch and cute. His movies have always had a sense of being more thoughtful and sensitive, but it's during these moments when his movies get boring. I thought this movie was funny in parts and the concept was interesting but there weren't any surprises.

An awful portrayal of best friends falling in love with one another in the least impressive way imaginable. The script is horrendously devised to consist of junior high jokes and cliches, which says something about the plot as well. The plot is lame... or in other words...pathetic. Z&M are crunched for money, so instead of spending responsibly, the first thing they do is bar it up and buy booze, and then have the bright idea to make a porno because it's easy and needs no skill. Absolute shit!

The morale of the story; if you are fat, and want to score up - befriend a female for a decade, make a porno, and then she will fall for you. That, and Justin Long is the funniest guy in Hollywood(not counting the rom-coms).

Now, the reason that clichés exist is that people in general are fucking moronic, and aren't they just going to love this juvenile crap. The plot is lifted from 'The Amateurs' with added ass jokes and a genital-motif. Cynically designed to hit-it-off with teenagers, it's as fake as Katie Morgan's tits, that, next to Long's brilliant cameo, are the best bits in this pathetic trash.

Constant sex jokes make up the dialogue and that's about all the script has to offer - continuous outtakes of Seth Rogen simply playing his signature self (which is funnier with a better movie around him). Nothing else distinguishes the film, and there's not much else going on. Elizabeth Banks and the supporting cast are great, but there's not enough material here for such an eyebrow-raising concept. Smith tries Apatow and fails.

A very funny movie, and Rogen is a perfect outlet for the Kevin Smith voice. The Smith crew and the Apatow crew mix well, but the biggest laughs come from unlikely places (Justin Long, namely). Robinson is the standout of the cast though, effortlessly drawing laughs with nearly every line. Banks and Rogen have solid chemistry, the former doing a lot to prove herself as comedic leading lady. It takes a few cliche turns, and loses a lot of appeal on repeat viewings, but it still makes me laugh.

Very likable and unlike Smith's early work (i.e. Clerks), the actors do the heavy lifting just as much as the script - the Apatow crew, the Smith crew, and hell, even the porn stars aren't bad. It's super-filthy and has a decent number of laughs. It lays on the schmaltz real, real heavy in the final act, though.

I have to say this is probably my favorite Smith film. His sarcastic humour is running wild in this comedy with a little heart as he likes to do. The often annoying Rogen is actually pretty good here, Lords is a really good fit and shows that she still has it. A lot of the Smith film regulars also make their usual funny appearances. This is not a kids show in any way and that's awesome, keep it up Kevin!

I'm struggling to find a way to say it's like a worse version of Boogie Nights without it sounding like I hated this. It has its moments, but just watch Boogie Nights instead. As commentary on film making and pornography, this is really funny. Unfortunately it also tries to be a romantic comedy, using the plot as an excuse to make the leads fall in love. The way that is executed has been done to death, lacks any creativity or style, and is ultimately boring. Overall the good mostly outweighs the bad.

For a big part, "Zack and Miri Make a Porno" is a delightfully funny comedy thanks to the relatable protagonistic duo of Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks and some great dialogues courtesy of filmmaker Kevin Smith of "Clerks" fame. Unfortunately it all gets too self-serious by the end, in a half-baked kind of forced way. It would have been better if it had stuck to the comedy but it's still a worthwhile movie as it is.

Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks have been in many much more successful raunchy rom-coms, but this one never seems to find the right balance of those three elements. Crude more often than it is actually funny, but it was fairly entertaining over the entire runtime. I appreciated the subtle (although unnecessary) zombie references more than I did the meta movie-making commentary.

The fact that, like any other romcom out there, it ends with the guy running after the girl after suddenly realizing he still loves her and she still loves him, is a proof that Kevin's brilliant attempt of depicting a romance between long-time friends out of a funny homage to porn filmmaking never completely fulfills its brave exploitation premise. This is precisely Kevin's Boogie Nights set in the 00s with a hilariously believable supporting cast, and it looks narrow like most of his films.

I thought long and hard about whether this one passed the 'worth it' mark and gave it the benefit of the doubt only cos I was still undecided. Kevin Smith clearly can't combine comedy and romance, the two once again kept quarantined from one another as scenes jump from witty and amusing to sappy and unbearable. Thankfully previous experience had taught me to expect the schoolgirl-mush finale, but it's average even without it. Needed much more Justin Long, which isn't something you can often say.

It has all the ingredients of a good Judd Apatow movie, but doesn't come together like one. I never got fully invested in Zack and Miri's relationship the way the film needed me to. Without that, the story falls apart and the humor, while decent, wasn't enough to elevate it above mediocrity.

As much as I like Elizabeth Banks because of her TV work, I am not too impressed with her feature films. Oh, and you made a movie based around the image of Seth Rogan having sex. It didn't work for Knocked Up, doesn't work here.

The humour is hit and miss for the most part, although thankfully it gets most of the low-brow, juvenile stuff out of the way early on, with the focus instead being on the chemistry between the characters and simply how likable most of them are. The tonal shifts are erratic at best and it never particularly hits those heart warming moments it's clearly trying for but there's a pleasant vibe throughout the whole thing. Justin Long was the highlight for me, completely took me by surprise.

It is great to see Kevin Smith make a really funny movie with some new characters. Seth Rogan and Elizabeth Banks work well together and the rest of the cast is delightful. I highly recommend this comedy.

Yeah, the stuff about film making on a low budget is definitely better than the romance stuff, which falls flat. There is a bit of charm to it, so it does have some worth.

I thought I would like this more than I did. The jokes feel pretty rehashed from past Kevin Smith films (Star Wars references and dick/fart jokes ad naseum) and while a fair amount are funny, it didn't feel like anything special or new. I was hoping this somewhat original idea would go to some darkly humorous places, but it never did. Instead, we get an awkward love story that is unbelievable and hits all the beats of normal bullshit romantic comedies.

Well, its dumb, its BIG fault is that some sections really drag on way too long, but it has a real heart and warmth and Banks and Rogen work really well together and are immensely likeable. There are some great comic sections in it, there are some really warm moments too but they tend to be dragged down by the sections which are just not funny, and not warm. All in all, I enjoyed it for the two leads, working hard, being totally loveable and making a fun 90 minutes

Smith continues his string of Jay and Silent Bob-less films with Zack and Miri, an attempt at star based comedy that falls flatter than Smith's earlier attempt with Jersey Girl. While the comedy works better here than the forementioned, its drama fails pretty miserably.

Probably more of a direct follow up to Clerks than even the real sequels, Smith's really in his element on this one. Plus it really does simulate some pretty hardcore porn (under hard-R) with Katie Morgan. Underrated.
