How Coppola can go from The Godfather and Apocalypse Now to this is beyond me. While Youth Without Youth is not an atrocity, it is surely completely flawed from start to finish. The story is mind boggling and the script seems so bizarre at times. The actual movie is split in two, with neither part really fulfilling itself in any way; everything about the plot is just so messy that it's hard to follow and ultimately will induce drowsiness. It's boring, it's flawed, and can't be recommended.

Beginning is intriguing, but it doesn't take much time to see that this movie is just a bucket of metaphysical babble. Wherever Aronofski's Fountain succeeded this Coppola's comeback fails. However this might be not entirely Coppola's fault. Obviously the novel movie's based on is extremely complicated, and like they say: not every book can be made into a movie.

The storytelling is confused, but strong acting and quality cinematography/soundtracking make it worth a watch.

Coppola's first film in 10 years proves to be a boring dud. 2 hours of jib jab that really goes nowhere, it's a cinematic mess that gave me a good sleep in its duration. Hopefully he's just shaking the cobwebs off his 10 year layoff and will start to make the good movies that we know him for.

This is not the Coppola who made Apocalypse now. This is the Coppola who made Jack. A plot that goes nowhere in the 45 minutes I wasted on it mixed with editing that is only confusing, not inspiring made it the worst movie-experience so far this year.

Ambitious, intriguing, and very watchable but unfortunately ultimately fairly pretentious and incomprehensible, Coppola took a big swing with this one and sadly mostly misses. There are clearly some interesting ideas floating around here, but the plot is too incoherent to really make proper use of them.

Without knowing beforehand this is based on a book the complexity made it clear this must be an adaptation. I assume the book actually does delve into the many ideas that are only scratched here. Still there is enough enigma to intrigue and audiovisual moments that captivate.

enteresan?

Coppola's long awaited return to personal film making resulted in a muddled quasi-philosophical 'meditation' on time, youth and aging that is rather confused about its intentions. It certainly looks good, and Tim Roth makes the most of what was presumably a difficult role, but Coppola was in way over his head, trying desperately hard to impress the film's importance upon the viewer while expecting us to do the heavy intellectual lifting that he hasn't bothered doing himself.

A vast, lumbering white elephant of a movie--but I sort of love it.

"The director treats his material as if it were Last Year at Marienbad, yet his story's particulars are too goofy and too incompatible to result in something haunting or beguiling." - Nick Schager

This film has Alexandra Maria Lara speaking moon language and Tim Roth with Jedi powers. Ridiculous.

slightly slow and tries to be thought provoking, but ends up just being awkward. those things considered tim roth is always a good actor, and the story here is one of the best stories i've seen in a long time.
