Young Man with a Horn

I think I would have loved it more had there been more focus on the music instead of making it a sappy relationship drama, even if the Kirk Douglas & Lauren Bacall dynamic had some really interesting aspects to it. It's a splendid film with a lot that shines.

Há 70 anos Êxito Fugaz tinha sua première em New York. Os carros-chefes desse filme são mesmo a ótima música e a Bacall caminhoneira (que infelizmente tem pouco tempo em cena), no mais é um filme apenas correto como usual no Curtiz. DVDRip no MakingOff.

Predictable downfall picture.

The story of Rick Martin (Kirk Douglas) a man driven by his desire to play the music that's feeds his soul. Doris Day sings a couple of songs that are worth hearing, but her character seems added just for the songs. Lauren Bacall really excels as a women so envious of Martin's love of music, she tries to kill it. The ending is a little weak, but overall a good movie.

The first third of the film presents a vivid portrait of the artist as a young boy, Juano Hernandez delivers a moving performance as the boy's mentor, and Curtiz directs with his usual elegance. But Doris Day and Hoagy Carmichael are a little too cute, Lauren Bacall just goes through the motions like a weary vampire, Kirk Douglas chews the scenery as usual, and the ending is abrupt and unconvincingly optimistic.
