Young Dr. Kildare

The first real spin-off episode recasting the lead and giving it to Lew Ayres who'd play it for the rest of the series. This also introduces Lionel Barrymore as Dr. Gillespie. And it's a good introduction with the doctors meeting and establishing their mentor/assistant relationship. The "mystery" wasn't all that much, but the entire film was a nice and family friendly way to get this off the ground creating a want to see the duo for the next releases. I'm looking forward to it anyway.

barrymore and ayres are the first pair of actors i've seen that play off of each other so well. the kildare series got better with age, but even the early stuff is no less than enjoyable.

Probably the earliest example of the medical drama. Not a bad start for this Hollywood serial of 16 movies spanning 10 years in the 1930s and 1940s
