An interesting, if slightly scattered film. The premise is a good excuse to essentially get an overview of Turkey from rural desert to snowy mountains to bustling city, and the mix of cultures and social mores. For the most part it works well, the characters grew on me and some of the turns the film takes were effective. I might have appreciated it more if the characterizations had been a bit more fleshed out from the start and if it didn't leave some threads hanging, but it's a very good film.

Very well done Turkish drama. I don't have all that much to complain about, but it didn't totally resonate with me to the point where I'd give it more than that. It's just a doubtlessly good, rock solid drama. It feels a tad dated, but this is really more personal preference than anything else. For the right person, this is probably higher quality than my rating. It felt a bit disorganized at times for me, but a very good film.

Ugly and unrelenting portrait of Turkish culture has a leaden, disjointed feel to it (not surprising given the nature of its production). While Güney deserves some credit for his daring, it doesn't make him a particularly good film-maker, telling a tedious and convoluted tale of 5 crims adjusting to the "outside". Haphazard and lurching structure makes it difficult to connect with (or find involving) on any level.

Works as a portrait of Turkey, but its characters stay flat - and there's too many of them.

This movie has a story that touches your heart. Despite the difficult conditions to make a movie in the post-coup d'etat era, Yılmaz Güney manages to show us the portait of Turkey by telling the story from different eyes. Some characters may seem little bit ineffective but still well deserved it's Palme D'or. btw you have to watch original dubbed version.

"Yol" is a perfect panaroma of Turkey for the year 1982. The misery, the pain people suffered during the state of emergency after "Coup d'état" in 1980, still continuing aspect of view of "the women" in the name of so called tradition and of course the start of endless controversy (loop) of kurdish people and turkish military forces are reflected in its most purest way.

I live in Turkey, watch a lot of Turkish films: I want this to be good... but it isn't. Slow, meaningful.

The bravery of the script for it's time is outstanding but it has lost it's appeal over the years. Dubbing is really awfull witch takes a lot away from the movie..
