Yokai Hanta - Hiruko

This feels like an anomaly within Tsukamoto's filmography. Beautiful cinematography with summer vibes and strong score make it feel like a bigger production, but while the FX work is at times clever, it also underlines the limited budget. The tone is inconsistent; Amblin style boys adventure meets Evil Dead gore with slapstick that doesn't gel together. The story is also too scattered or requires familiarity with the original manga books. Not bad, but could have been much better.

Fun, well put together movie that pays homage to a lot of classic Western horror films.
