If you couldn't tell this movie doesn't have a director it's abysmal pacing and lack of any genuinely inspiring set pieces should make it obvious. This isn't without heart but it falls really flat in most regards and is often utterly tedious to sit through.

The monkey looks so annoying that you expect him to be evil, until you realize that the filmmakers actually believe they have created a cute character. It is probably the biggest surprise in this shameless Pixar copy that pretends to have a big heart despite its shallow core.

While it's not a masterpiece, it has a really good and strong message. Sadly, it may go over the head of most of the target audience. If one can see past the lack of eye candy and the very simple story and focus on that message, it be comes quite a heart-warming and inspiring reminder not to give into the darkness that lurks in all of us.

Wonder Park isn't as bad as some of the reviews make out, though overall the film feels lacklustre and a little derivative. The plot attempts to form a thematic exploration of a child's coping mechanism via an imaginary theme park, in a way reminiscent of Inside Out, but falls noticeably short. From the ill-defined illness (we all know is cancer), to Oliver's character vocally shouting out the theme, to the inclusion of pop songs to evoke pathos, there's just too much done poorly in this film.

The movie is called Wonder Park. The park is called Wonder Land. That's only one problem with this movie. The overlaying creepiness, especially the monkey, Peanut - and not in a good way - is the major flaw.

Got all the trademarks of modern animation. Super cute and charming! Yet when it tries to touch the emotional chords, and it does try hard, it fails. Works fine as family entertainment, but going deeper than that it don't.

I'm not against movies ripping off other movies. That would be both hypocritical and shortsighted of me, since there are several movies I love very much which would not exist if not for some (a lot) creative pilfering. But the danger inherent in borrowing, is that you're constantly reminding the audience of other movies, which is bad if yours is not quite up the standard of, in this case, movies like Inside Out, Mirrormask and Totoro. Although the design of the park was pretty neat.

It's not terrible, and there are some moments of passing fun, such as a crazy slide through giant magic bendy straws in the sky. Additionally, it might even be useful for the very young to make sense of some hard emotions. But for the rest of us (whether we've actually made the herculean effort of making sense of our emotions or not) it lacks subtlety, comes across as too, ahem, childishly simple and the setpieces are visually tame considering the wide open world that was created to play in.

Too many characters. Discount version of "Inside Out" that could have been a more mature take to a child that has to go through tough times and pull through with their imagination. But it wasn't.

Eh. I've seen better, I've seen worse. Good messages about creativity and family.

For parents who want their kids to stare at a TV screen rapt for an hour this is really good. Feels like half of it was on a rollercoaster.
