Women's Prison

Naturally none of that had the slightest bit to do with reality...but it was all quite entertaining nonetheless. Incidentally, that prison seems to be doing a thoroughly splendid job of rehab (at least on the distaff side); all the inmates proved to be paragons of warmth and humanity. Only the matrons were callous Nazis.

A very enjoyable and watchable women's prison noir. I'm not a huge fan of prison movies because all the shots look relatively the same due to taking place in a prison. However, Women's Prison has a strong cast, unique and distinct characters, and Amelia van Zandt plays an icy bitch of a warden. It clips along at a good pace and is all-around competent.

Your standard babes behind bars flick with the usual assortment of scenarios. This one is slightly different in that the men and women share a prison, separated only by a wall. This leads to an unusual scenario where a fella sneaks in to the other side and impregnates his wife. Most notable is the star-studded cast, especially Ida Lupino as the sadistic warden. The movie is kind of fun and moves swiftly, but is too formulaic and lacking in nuance. CAGED is a far better option.
