Women in Cages

Dull Women in Prison flick starring Pam Grier as the sadistic lesbian head matron Alabama. Some girls escape into the jungle taking Alabama as hostage, and eventually end up trapped working as whores on a pleasure boat owned by an evil pimp. A couple of nice catfights and some boobs, but pretty tame.

Needlessly well-directed/photographed. There's an austerity to it setting it apart from other WiPers, making the torture scenes oddly unnerving, despite or rather because of the lack of graphic detail. The customary sexual violence takes place almost entirely off-screen and there is little titillation of the kind found in Jack Hill's prison films. Grier's a tad awkward in her readings but clearly a future star. Roberta Collins is great, and the ending distinctly recalls MCCABE & MRS. MILLER...

A bit dull, but watchable.

This film has some exciting moments but there is not much of a script. With a better script this could have been a good movie.
