Kate Quantrill (Audrey Totter), wife of infamous Confederate raider Quantrill (Brian Donlevy), and Sally Maris (Joan Leslie), virginal sister of Kate's ex-lover, saloonkeeper Bitteroot Bill (Reed Hadley). Sally herself falls in love with Lance Horton (John Lund), ostensibly a mine foreman but actually a Southern spy. Sabe aqueles filmes em que você quer analisar cada cena nos mínimos detalhes? Este é um deles e me pergunto o porquê ele não ser mais famoso do que de fato é. Em 1953 Dwan já estava lidando com um conceito feminista muito atual, o de sororidade e o faz de maneira bem complexa e genial - está vendo senhores cineastas, não é tão difícil fazer um filme que respeita a capacidade das mulheres, é? DVD Versátil Cinema Faroeste Volume 5.

It's hard not 2 wonder how (or why) this anachronistic feminist western ever got made in 1953. Although the film has a traditional male hero & villain, there's never any doubt that the 3 lead females are the stars. They're all different types as well, but each one's tough-as-nails. As the villain tells the hardcase town mayor: "You don't spit and scratch, you punch". The subtext painting the Confederacy as heroic is another curveball. Worth seeking out for fans of the unusual.
