Wolf Warrior 2

Overt jingoism has been a part of Chinese cinema for decades, I'd like to attribute it to the direct government control over censorship that has been waneing in recent years, but the trend remains the same. You might think China has gleaned a little too much from Hollywood, but that's just not the case. "Wolf Warrior 2" is about the worst offender in recent memory, to boot, it's inferior to the original in every possible way. I've begun to doubt my leniency toward it's American counterparts.

Damn, what a disappointment. The Americanization is problematic, it really shows and it has me worried for how it may affect future Chinese action cinema

White people are stirring up trouble in Africa. But don't worry black people, China is here to give you your freedom back. Because China and Africa are friends. That's an actual line from the movie by the way. So yes, its Chinese propaganda at its finest. But if that involves ludicrous tank battles, awesome shootouts, Frank Grillo fistfighting Jing Wu and lots of other dumb shit, hand me my red book and conscript me into the people's army right now.

This movie is dumb.Lets get that out of the way so everyone who doesn't enjoy tanks somersaulting into each other can pass this movie by right now.Ok all you somersaulting tank fans, glad to have you on board still.This is a movie for us. There's martial arts, gunplay, absurd numbers of explosions, more gunplay, more shootouts, more martial acrobatics DURING shootouts, and NO tanks somersaulting was NOT an exaggeration.more need not be said. You're either watching this movie or not based on that

Wow this was over the top. If you took the concept of Rambo III, the talent behind the Missing in Action trilogy and blended it with Chinese ascetics you'd get this movie. The action in the first half was pretty good but it kept getting more ridiculous as it went along. Everything outside of the action scene are pretty bad and as a whole the movie is at least 30 minutes too long for it's own good... [Full review]

I know they're not exactly going for subtlety, but the patriotic overtones and the portrayal of the Chinese-African relationships are just so clumsy and way over the top here. The action goes all out and has fun moments, but is too often drawn out and excessive as hordes of unnamed Africans get graphically gunned down while the one-on-one fights are poorly edited.

The action is so so good, but the insanely over the top nationalism is so ridiculous to start with, but only gets more and more insidious and creepy as it goes along.
