Wing and a Prayer

"Wing and a Prayer," rendered in black and white, effectively utilizes stock footage to craft engaging action sequences. Interestingly, it garnered an Academy Award nomination for its script—a point that brings a smile, considering I perceived the plot as somewhat underdeveloped, populated with characters that felt all too familiar. Nonetheless, under the skilled hand of director Henry Hathaway, the movie rises to a level of competence, marking it as a work of average entertainment.

Quality aircraft drama, with a lot of waiting, frustration and disappointments for the men of war, before the big blast. It's been done better after the war, but considering this one was done as the war was on-going, shows a strong understanding for the challenges of the air battle at sea. Takes on a few too many destinies for any full emotional effect, but it certainly included most situations a pilot encounters in a situation like this. Time well spent.
