At first, while watching this, I was merely bored. But then I realized that all the money that went into making this unnecessary film could have been spent on charity and would've helped make the world a slightly better place. Then I became depressed instead.

If you truly want to enjoy this movie, and I mean REALLY want to enjoy it, you'll have to take it with a grain of salt about the size of your fist. Who knew that when the west was won, that it was really just a matter of defeating a giant, robotic spider?

Some funny bits here and there if you don't mind Will Smith's brand of humour. It's a fun action film that doesn't take itself to seriously at all. Salma Hayek is gorgeous, so that's a plus. But seriously what the crap is Kenneth Branagh doing in this?

Quite possibly one of the strangest of the large scale 90s blockbusters (though far from the worst); amusingly designed and crafted (the garish vulgarity of the big metal spider got a chuckle from me), but suffers primarily from an awkward Smith's miscasting (and the screenplay's peculiar obsession with racial tensions, which it lacks the steel to properly address). Kline seems to be having the most fun, with Branagh a seemingly ideal villain, but neither man has anyone to properly play against.

Typical 90s 'high concept' crap that was presumably greenlit on the back of a theme park ride style sales pitch. It wasn't the first or only sci-fi western of the decade, but it was certainly the most wasteful, blowing its considerable talent and resources on lousy material. Welch's steampunk inspired production design is notable, as is the giant mechanical spider that stomps menacingly across rocky desert plains. The rest is a wash.

This movie is poorly written, lousily acted, stupidly constructed, and all around adverbily terrible in every capacity, which is par for the course of a Will Smith film. This one is distinct, however, in that it incorporates Will Smith's race into the storyline, with almost as much wit and subtlety as Gallagher. I'm not entirely sure whether this was done primarily for dramatic depth, or because it's weird to have a black guy as special agent in 1869. Either way, does it really matter? It blows.

Considering the massive budget this spoof was anything but a success, but the infrequent wacky humour provides a semi-decent experience if taken with a firmly tongue-in-cheek attitude. Overall it just seems rushed, many aspects are undeveloped, unrefined and just as many potentials remain unexploited. Wild Wild West's main weakness is the writing and screenplay which quickly drags everything else down with it, despite there being some competent people on board the project. Not that great.

Even knowing this film's reputation, I was startled at how bad it was. You'd think a movie stuffed with steampunk gadgets (including a giant mechanical spider) would *have* to be fun in places, but no, it's boring all the way thru, and the relentless onslaught of middle-school-edgy, sub-South-Park offensiveness wears on the brain. Plus, a plot that should be straightforward is confounded by a repeated refusal to include five seconds of connecting material. Every actor in this deserved better.

It's bad, which is a shame, because the art direction was glorious. Kept trying to watch, hoping the visuals & set design could prop up a script outshined by Wiseau. Really, though, props to the art team, and all actresses did a good job, Kline & Smith were solid, too, as usual.

It feels as though things started to go wrong early and often and everyone just gave up at some point during the shoot. Multiple scenes seem to be missing, performances get suddenly listless, expensive CGI is followed up by the cheapest green screen shot, a decent joke is countered by a hastily delivered piece of nonsense. And, much like the filmmakers, at the end the audience thinks "oh who actually cares anymore."

Wild Wild West, while a bad movie, isn't as bad as it's made to be. It can be taken as pure entertainment with no meaning and it's not horrible. Wild Wild West is a pointless excuse for Will Smith and Barry Sonnenfeld to try to joke their way through another special effects-driven movie. It'll give some viewers Men in Black flashbacks, while giving the others something they can think about at night to trigger fatigue, allowing for a nice, sleep-filled night. The special effects do look good, but that's the only positive to find. It's boring, unfunny, poorly acted, has uncharacterized characters, and is predictable almost from scene one.

This movie had a wild imagination. I thought the gadgets (although gimmicky) were pretty interesting. Kevin Kline was the "Q" of the wild west. He also makes an incredibly ugly woman I might add (so does Will Smith). Not all the jokes knock your boots off but it does give you a good night of entertainment. Salma Hayek is a desert flower and Will Smith is admittedly a handsome cowboy...

Wild Wild West is by far one of the dumbest films I've ever seen. Will Smith & Kevin Kline are one of the oddest pairings I can recall and their chemistry on screen is just weird. Kenneth Branagh is a creepy villain and Salma Hayek is tossed around like a piece of meat. Other than a cheesy but thumping score, the action is forgettable, the gadgets are moronic and the humour misfires completely. But the enormous robotic spider is quite possibly the most moronic thing I've ever seen in a film.

The fact is, with a cast like Ken Branaugh, Kevin Kline, Will Smith, Salma Hayek and Ted Levine, it's absolutely criminal how much this movie sucked. I'm not really sure how anyone involved thought this was going to be a good movie because the script is offensively awful.
