The audience seemed to enjoy it and it was amusing enough but I felt that there was more to the story that would been worth exploring, especially given such a talented cast.

I enjoyed the 1920s setting and solid cast. The film’s attempt at social commentary fell a little off the mark, but it used its witty script pretty well.

Fun, quite painful at times, exploring the hypocrisy and high emotionality of bigots. Good on sexism, but the baffling decision to do color blind casting means that it doesn't engage with racism at all in that context. Olivia Colman is great, of course.

It's a fun trifle of a movie, with some clever moments and a likable cast. I found the "solution" to the mystery underwhelming and somewhat predictable, especially as the movie makes the usual suspects its targets for ridicule.

not a whodunnit or a mystery like I was expecting but still works as a comedy

Cute, VERY light entertainment. Amusing enough way to pass 100 minutes. As a huge "The Thick of It" fan, it's always fun to see Joanna Scanlan in, well, anything.

Mildly amusing, some very fun characters but ultimately there's a lot about this story that could have been more interesting.

This is an interesting true story I believe, which seems quite relevant to todays world, even though it is clearly set in the past. There's a great cast and just watching how people react to others reading aloud the foul mouthed letters is amusing enough to be worth a watch. I thought this was a well made film which may make people think about sending rude or abusive messages anonymously, whether that be via social media or in old fashioned 'smail mail'. Neither should be accepted of course.

Very enjoyable and amusing story that treads on some very serious themes that transcend the era that it portrays. An interesting juxtapositional relationship between the two lead characters as almost two sides of the same character. Very much a movie about outsiders and breaking conventionality and hierarchy. I thought it was very well-done and effective.

Wicked Little Letters is a fun, breezy film thanks to stellar performances from Buckley & Coleman. The rest of the cast is pretty great as well, and I liked the 1920's aesthetic the film creates. However, changing Buckley's Rose from a Sussex lass to an Irish gal muddies the racial aspect Sharrock & Sweet seemingly tried to avoid. Instead the film engages with post-war female equality, but with mixed results. Scanlan & Vasan's sleuthing was done well; making the police bumbling fools less so.

One of those films where the trailer was significantly more snappy and promising than the whole thing.

I wasn't terribly surprised by the ending. The only character worth watching was the young Irish girl accused of writing the letters. Most of the other characters were unimpressive, and a few such as the police were quite boring and underwhelming. It would be hard to recommend it.

The cast is terrific, capturing every layer of the screenplay: its humour, of course, buoyed by whimsical direction, but its nuance as well, the central trio often finding meaningful moments of pathos and power in and around the foxy-assed cussing.

While it's not the greatest films ever made, Poison Pen (1939) is a film I have fond memories of, way before I went mad with movies. That meant I had to see the 2023 adaptation of the same story. And it's a lot of fun. Unfortunately, the production doesn't quite bring you all there. These is this glossy TV-movie feel about it, makes it feel a little artificial. But once the cursing gets spewed out, it had me howling!

I've become a fan of Buckley these last few years. She's wonderful, handling the emotional bits near the end and the sassiness/vulgarity the rest of the time. It's nice seeing her have fun with some material. The mystery here loses its way fairly early but the script is fun and the premise is fantastic (I know it's based on a true story). Maybe not as funny as one would hope, but I laughed some. Just a good time.

I liked it a lot. A lively, skilled cast give this story a zip and weight. They do make them like this, just not often enough.
