Sad and sobering portrait of Houston, well crafted and assembled as expected from Macdonald. It can't quite escape the double-edged sword of the 'authorised biography'; while the access to some startlingly candid and revelatory archival footage and familial recollections is to his benefit, one feels that Macdonald can't be as probing as he might have liked to some of his interview subjects; it's also hard to shake the idea that Houston's story is a tragic one, but not an especially edifying one.

I was very moved by this affecting movie. So much so, I had to turn it off at about 75% into it. I just hated feeling so sick that her beautiful talent was wasted by drugs and the destructive influences of her ignorant ghetto minded husband who steadily undermined and dragged her down. It rubs me raw to be reminded of this. When his face began to appear in the movie, I couldn't take another minute.

Really taps you into the cycle of media hatred that can haunt a big star while also revealing the trauma that most likely caused their pain. Hearing Al Sharpton dub her "Whitey" Houston is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard and he along with everyone else crushing her in the media should have felt some shame for the way they treated a very ill person. It also brought me back to when I was less sympathetic by showing the jokes on tv that I probably laughed at. More love needed all around.

Competently made, but doesn't come close to Amy's emotional impact.

Basically a "Behind the Music" documentary with a main interest in scandals instead of music.

The chronological presentation of interviews and video allow the tragedy to unfolds before your eyes.

Very sad that so much talent was wasted and destroyed by herself and others. Could have gotten more out of the role media and other persons played in this tragedy. But was good to hear some of her old songs when she was at her best
